    経てきた時代を感じさせる木味にあふれた、嘉永6年の墨書きを残す刀箪笥。

    低い背丈に横に細長い姿が特徴的な箪笥。抽斗の前板にはあまり時代箪笥の材として見かけないドロノキが用いられ、むしれやすい材ゆえの削り跡に当時の職人の苦心が感じられます。小振りな錠金具や取手が控え目に配され、全体的に簡素な佇まい。高さのある鉄製の細脚スタンドにのせると赤味を帯びた明るい木肌が引き立ち、風が抜けるような軽やかさが生まれました。

    主張しすぎない端正なフォルムは、飾り台としても心地よく空間になじみます。


    This sword chest, bearing an ink inscription dated to 1853 (Kaei 6), is filled with the warm patina of the years it has lived through. Its low height and long, horizontal proportions give it a distinctive presence. The drawer fronts are made of doro-no-ki (cottonwood), a wood rarely seen in period chests. Because the material tends to tear easily, the tool marks reveal the craftsman’s careful effort in shaping it.
    Small locks and handles are arranged modestly, lending the piece a clean and simple impression. When placed on a tall, slender iron stand, the bright, reddish tone of the wood comes alive, creating an airy, open feeling.
    Its understated, uncomplicated form makes it an excellent choice for use as a display stand.
