白蝶貝の大輪の牡丹と彫り出された赤い菊花、裏には梨地に蝶が舞います。

彫漆・象嵌・高蒔絵など、様々な技巧が凝らされた印籠。象嵌された白蝶貝は花弁の柔らかさが、菊花は凛とした佇まいが見事に彫り出され表現されています。精緻で繊細な技術から生み出された格調高い逸品です。根付は玉山の銘。牡丹に合わせて獅子ですね。

This inrō features a large mother‑of‑pearl peony and a finely carved red‑lacquer chrysanthemum, while the reverse shows a butterfly dancing over a nashiji ground.

A range of techniques—including carved lacquer, inlay, and takamaki‑e—are masterfully employed. The inlaid mother‑of‑pearl captures the softness of peony petals, while the chrysanthemum is carved with a poised, dignified presence.
